Staff and Volunteers

Sue Chown, Centre Manager, and Alison, Deputy Manager, have had many years’ experience within the caring field and are fully qualified to deal with the many levels of disability which accompany a stroke.

They head a dedicated and experienced team of carers and volunteers all of whom contribute to the smooth running of the Day Centre. All staff and volunteers are DBS checked and all staff have up to date first aid training.

Volunteering can be very fulfilling

I have been volunteering at ICare since August 2014 having first been made aware of the Centre when my mother had a stroke.  I was most impressed by their friendliness and positivity and how well my mother enjoyed herself. It seemed inevitable that I would eventually volunteer!  So, one day a week, along with other volunteers, I enjoy the company of the clients and staff. We talk, we laugh, and we work as a team to help the clients enjoy their day and support and encourage them to realise there is a life after a stroke.

Our staff

We are looking for a Centre Manager at the ICARE Day Centre

We are a small local charity based in Green Street Green, Orpington. We run a friendly day centre for people who have had a stroke where we provide rehabilitation and other activities to help them reintegrate back into the community. We also provide support for their carers. You can find out more about us and the work we do on our website at

We are now looking for a full time Manager, someone who is enthusiastic, self-starting and caring. The Manager will be responsible for:
• the day to day running of the Centre,
• managing the staff and volunteer team,
• delivering care and personal attention to our clients, and
• growing the number of clients coming to the Centre.

We know from over 30 years’ experience how much our clients value their days at ICARE, and how much their carers value that time for themselves too. This Centre Manager post is therefore a key role at ICARE and a very rewarding one. We are currently open to clients on Monday to Thursday, but this is a full-time appointment (35 hours) to allow time for outward facing tasks, including establishing ways of bringing more clients to the Centre.

Salary will be around £29k but could be more for the right candidate.
